How to calculate overtime pay per hour?

Overtime pay per hour is the ordinary hourly rate plus the premium. The premium depends on the country and the contract. Work it out and enter it in the field. There are 2 steps:

Step 1: Calculate the ordinary hourly rate

Divide the pay by the contracted hours. In this example the week is 40 hours. The monthly figure uses 160 hours, four weeks of 40, not a legal divisor. Examples:

Monthly pay example

With pay of 4800 and 160 hours, the ordinary hourly rate is 4800 / 160 = 30.

Weekly pay example

With pay of 1200 and 40 hours in the week, the ordinary hourly rate is 1200 / 40 = 30.

Step 2: Add the premium

The overtime premium depends on the legislation of each country and on the contract. As an example, a 50% premium is added to the ordinary hourly rate. This tool uses one rate for every overtime hour and does not apply the percentage by itself. Enter the overtime pay per hour that applies to you. An unpaid break is not hours worked: enter it in the break field. If the break is paid, leave that field blank. The 50% below is only the example.

In this example, with a 50% premium, each overtime hour is worth:

Overtime pay per hour = 30 + (50% × 30)
= 30 + 15
= 45

Use this time card calculator to see the total hours worked, calculate the overtime and get the overtime pay. Labor rules can vary by country or region.
